Ye Olde Grumpy Rarab's Modding Guide Welcome to the Grumpy Rarab's Guide to .DAT Modding

To start with, I have never done anything like this before. I'm not the smartest guy and have never been to school for any kind of computer anything. This tutorial covers the results of my projects modding .DATs in Final Fantasy XI.

This guide is not a complete tomb of 3D modelling knowledge. However, if you have never modded anything like me, this guide will not only help you off your ass, but get you rolling into some advanced techniques as well. My knowledge is the result of spending time to learn the Applications and Methods presented herein.

Also, I would like to note that I didn't know anything about HTML or writing Websites before I started this Tutorial Project, so stop laughing at my interface. I spent about 4 hours learning stuff to write this entire site, even though the site itself took days to write. I would like to thank HTMLGoodies for that. If you know nothing about Websites either, they can teach you.

Note to other Modders :
If you find one of my methods within this guide too cumbersome or obsolete, please let me know through my eMail. Also, if you see that I'm missing something from this guide, it is not from oversight. I have thoroughly documented my knowledge on this subject.

If you know of a technique or tutorial that I should add to this site don't hesitate to let me know. I want to keep this tutorial as complete and updated as possible.

Disclaimer and such :
Above all else I would like to thank all of the developers of the Applications covered by my tutorial. I use them quite frequently and without them, this would obviously not be possible. In no way do I take any credit for any Application listed on this site, nor for any work put into developing them.

Also, any reference in any form of previously copyrighted material in any form is property of that material's respective owner. I don't claim ownership of anything 'cept my words, which I would like to take some credit for.
