VRS v1.0 - IMPORTING .DAT INFORMATION

This is easy. Importing Models into VRS not only gives you a breakdown of every portion of the .DAT but will also allow you to make those much needed adjustments. To add Vertices, Edges, or Primitves to a Model you will need to first Import it into VRS using the FFXI Import Tool. So, let's get started.
  1. First things first, Open VRS.
  2. Make sure you either have your .SCN file loaded or the white_paper.scn File. If you still can't get anything loaded, go back and read the Intro to VRS.
  3. Now for the good stuff. Click the bottom "FFXI Model Importer" button in the Tool Tool Box.

  4. If you don't have the Tool Tool Box, then you need to check the box next to Show/Hide Toolbars>Tool.
  5. This brings up the FFXI Import Tool. Not near as confusing as it looks.

  6. First thing we're going to do is setup the Tool.
  7. In the browse box, you want to set your Final Fantasy XI folder. No further. It will read from the appropriate ROM Folder.
  8. After you have that set, be sure you check the "the Mesh is connected" and "Mirror the Mesh" box. Otherwise, when you export your Model, you will only be Exporting half of it. Not really cool in-game.
  9. Next, we'll take a look at the Skeleton Name Definition Tab.

  10. The only time you need to worry about this is when you're working on PC's. Click the appropriate Race for your project. If you're oing to be working on NPC's or MOB's, then you'll be working only with the File Direct Appointment Tab.

  11. This is not near as confusing as it looks. If you clicked a Skeletal File from the Name Definition Tab then the top 2 boxes will already be loaded for you. If not, read on.
    • Skeleton - This will be the Skeletal File of your Model. If you're working with PC Models, this number will come from the Skeletal Name Definition tab. If you're working with NPC or MOB Models, the Skeleton is going to be the same exact .DAT as the Model file.
    • Model - If you're working with NPC or MOB Models, this ones a no-brainer. If you're using PC Models, then this .DAT will be your face.
    • Head - When working with PC Models, this will be your Head Armor .DAT.
    • Body - When working with PC Models, this will be your Body Armor .DAT.
    • Hands - When working with PC Models, this will be your Hand Armor .DAT.
    • Legs - When working with PC Models, this will be your Leg Armor .DAT.
    • Feet - When working with PC Models, this will be your Foot Armor .DAT.
  12. Now that that's taken care of, let's open the Grumpy Rarab.

  13. After you've either inputted the Filepaths or Browsed to them, just click "OK". That's Japanse for "OK".
  14. And that's it. Now wait for your Model to load and you can start those much needed Vertex additions.
